UniSuper's journey to transforming identity security
UniSuper is one of Australia's largest superannuation companies, managing $158 billion in funds under management and supporting approximately 670,000 members. It is focused on protecting members' retirement savings, particularly in the tertiary education sector, and takes this responsibility seriously. Its identity and access management team oversees all aspects of identity and access management, including platforms, strategy, compliance activities, and day-to-day identity security.
Challenge
As UniSuper grew, it faced challenges with account sprawl and complexity across its technology stack. Onboarding new starters had previously been quick because the service center cloned user access, but this approach was not secure. At that time, the environment was simpler, with lower turnover and fewer third-party workers. Introducing stronger identity security controls increased onboarding time from a day or two to several weeks, creating a need to balance security, compliance, and efficiency.
Solution
With SailPoint Identity Security Cloud, UniSuper centralized identity data from disparate sources, gaining full visibility across its ecosystem. This allows the organization to show access and complexity to those accountable for team members' access and application security. UniSuper now manages 87 RBAC roles and 25 birthright roles, standardizing access and reducing onboarding time from weeks to around half an hour. The platform, supported by SailPoint's customer success and product teams, has enabled enhancements, faster fixes, and empowered users to maintain stronger identity security while efficiently managing access across the organization.

I don't think a lot of vendors can provide that much interaction with product teams on such a regular basis. SailPoint’s partnership ensures our feedback is heard, challenges are addressed, and we achieve the best outcomes."
