Accelerating application onboarding with Application Management

Application onboarding is a decades-old problem that no identity security vendor or partner has been able to solve very well. The fundamental challenge is that customers often have hundreds or thousands of applications which need to be connected to and integrated with their governance product. Even the most user-friendly integration patterns require some level of technical proficiency - database queries, REST API calls, service account permissions - that identity security teams may only have a limited pool of resources to lean upon. Added to the technical challenge is a lack of visibility into what a proper governance pattern for a given system should actually be. Answering that question requires conversations with applications' business owners who, again, have limited bandwidth to support an identity team outside of their core job function.

Innovation through SaaS

As SailPoint Identity Security Cloud approaches a full decade in the market, its SaaS-based visibility into connectivity patterns at scale allows us to address the first challenge with application onboarding: how others are integrating with particular systems. Our platform can see these configurations as they are being taken live by the SailPoint community, including customers and partners, and commonalities can be surfaced through analysis of that data.

SailPoint has built tooling to standardize and search across those common configurations so that integration templates can be presented as “prior art” for customers who need to connect to systems that we’ve seen before. This allows us to quickly build working integrations to customers' applications without needing significant input from their teams. Where customer-specific data is still needed - specific system URLs, database connection strings, etc. - our Professional Services registration portal can be deployed within a customer’s organization. This user-friendly interface allows application owners to self-register their systems while answering minimal questions for our algorithms to provide prioritization suggestions, depth of governance recommendations, and direction as to the best connectivity pattern to use for each system.

From there, SailPoint’s team of governance experts and technical implementation engineers can work with the customer’s IAM team to rapidly onboard registered applications into Identity Security Cloud. Our team works in parallel across multiple systems at once to bring applications under the governance umbrella faster than customer-led efforts, with lower costs.

Accelerated business value at scale

This offering has had a significant impact on customers' governance programs. Through our initial set of customer engagements, we have reduced application onboarding time by 45-70%, with costs 50-75% lower than other current solutions on the market.

Beyond the initial integration, the Application Management subscription provides continuous, SailPoint-led evaluation of applications against Identity Security Cloud product features. Where our platform delivers additional functionality automatically, this offering identifies applications that could be further uplifted to take advantage of that functionality. This allows our customers to increase their utilization of owned features, organically resulting in greater identity security. Most importantly, this engagement allows our customers to execute on their digital transformation efforts at scale and in a manner which maximizes business value.
