The Co-operative Group is one of the world’s largest consumer co-operatives, owned by millions of members. They are the UK’s fifth largest food retailer with more than 2,500 local, convenience and medium-sized stores.
The Co-operative Group was struggling to manage and govern access for over 70,000 employees. They lacked a comprehensive identity governance platform to assist with these efforts which made audit requirements difficult to meet. With each of the businesses using their own methodology for granting access to systems, The Co-operative Group lacked consistency and the foundations for an identity management program.
- Improve the audit process and experience
- Enable the workforce more quickly
- Create tighter controls around employee access to applications and data
The Co-operative Group set out to improve their security posture by building their first identity governance program with SailPoint. The employee experience has improved now that new hires receive access to approved applications and data on their start date and have a one-stop-shop for access-related inquiries and password management. These enhancements include an audit trail for all approvals and changes helping the organization demonstrate compliance.
“The efficiency, cost savings and increased security already experienced are just the tip of the iceberg for what we plan to accomplish. Identity is an enabler that allows us to manage access for all employees, all applications and all data.”
