SailPoint Executive Book Club: Paul Trulove, CPO

This week we sat down with Paul Trulove our Chief Product Officer to learn more about the type of books he reads and recommends. During our conversation, we learned that he is a big fan of historical fiction and is an avid reader.

What is your favorite book of all time?

That is a hard one, but I’m a WW2 fanatic so The Eagle Has Landed by Jack Higgins is top of my list.  This is the fascinating story of German troops landing in England to assassinate Churchill. I read it first in high school (when I didn’t do a lot of reading just for fun and I couldn’t put it down). I’ve probably read it 4-5 more times over the years.

I also enjoy Ken Follett’s Kingsbridge series – The Pillars of the Earth, World Without End and A Column of Fire. This is a great series on what life was like in medieval England. Each book is almost 1000 pages and you don’t want them to end. The character development and storytelling is incredible. It was also a big departure from Ken Follett’s typical genre, which made the first one even more interesting.

What are your favorite growth books?

The Three Box Solution: A Strategy for Leading in Innovation by Vijay Govindarajan. This is a great book on how to prioritize and optimize innovation in a growing business (something we do a lot of at SailPoint). It helps to frame how to manage the present; learn from, but not be held back by the past; and create breakthrough ideas for future products

Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap…And Others Don’t by Jim Collins. Need I say more…

What is the most recent book you have read?

A Gentleman in Moscow: A Novel by Amor Towels

I just started this book and I like “historical fiction” books and this one doesn’t look like it’s going to disappoint!
