Several years ago, SailPoint realized the cloud was going to be a major game-changer for how enterprises deploy mission-critical infrastructure. We knew our customers would eventually want to extend the benefits of SaaS to Identity Management, but we also recognized that the security sensitivities and integration challenges associated with Identity Management were going to delay market adoption of Identity-as-a-service (IDaaS). However, we were committed to having a solution ready for our customers and began taking a calculated approach toward the cloud.
We took the first step a few years ago, when SailPoint addressed cloud identity management by enabling our IdentityIQ customers to manage identities and access privileges in the cloud in the same manner that they govern them for applications in the datacenter. About the same time, we also dedicated a team within our company to focus on IDaaS – and last year, we released our first IDaaS solution for access management.
Along the way, we’ve been talking to a lot of large organizations across virtually every industry, about their current and future identity management challenges. It became immediately clear that enterprise customers have been underserved by the limited IDaaS options that only provide SSO capabilities. Put another way: no IDaaS solution existed that could meet the identity management needs of a large-scale enterprise.
Today, after two years of R&D, SailPoint announced our strategy to address that hole in the market – and our plans to deliver the industry’s first enterprise-grade suite of identity management services – identity governance, provisioning and access management – built from the ground-up as a SaaS offering. It offers the business benefits of SaaS – lower acquisition costs, rapid deployment, ease-of-use, and worry-free upgrades – balanced with the compliance, legal, and security requirements of Global 2000 organizations.
While we believe there will be a 2-4 year transition period before IDaaS becomes mainstream in the identity management market, we are already in talks with some early adopters. And we believe that IdentityNow has the potential to drive a significant shift in the IDaaS market. As part of our strategy, SailPoint has also created a Cloud On-Ramp program for customers who are not in the position to deploy IDaaS currently, but who have their sights on it in the future. We are committed to helping our customers at any step they need identity by providing the leading identity management on-premises suite and the leading IDaaS suite.
After all the hard work our team has put into the development of IdentityNow, we are very excited to finally unveil our long-term strategy to you. The early feedback has been extremely positive. Stay tuned as we continue to provide updates here!
