Identity is Security: Everywhere You Look

I apologize for getting the Full House theme song stuck in your head, but cybersecurity–the good and the bad–is everywhere you look.

This week, we saw a couple of instances where cybersecurity news got hyperlocal. A major provider of electricity in Johannesburg, South Africa found themselves dealing with ransomware. And back here in the states, Louisiana’s governor declared a statewide cybersecurity emergency after several school districts were hit with a malware attack. While we constantly see lots of buzz with the biggest GDPR fines or breaches, the fact is that cybersecurity affects us beyond the mega-breaches and attention-grabbing headlines.

Also abuzz in the security community is the new NSA Cybersecurity Directorate announced this week. According to the NSA, “This new approach to cybersecurity will better position NSA to collaborate with key partners across the US government like US Cyber Command, Department of Homeland Security, and Federal Bureau of Investigation. It will also enable us to better share information with our customers so they are equipped to defend against malicious cyber activity.”

And finally, the question we ask (and answer) week after week: why do organizations continue to neglect identity governance. Solutions Review shared some of our research on the state of identity in today’s organizations.
