SailPoint Gives Back for Miles and Miles

In my three years at SailPoint, I’ve seen our crew rally around many great causes. From walking to raise money for cancer research to collecting donations when our neighbors were in need after natural disasters to pouring sweat equity and dollars into causes that advance humanity in some way or another. These instances are too numerous to list.

Because this crew has always set the bar so high, I am continuously pleased, but never surprised, by our team’s collective heart for giving. But recently, this crew has truly outdone itself.

This story starts back in or around January when 8 of our teammates committed to riding their bikes from Houston to Austin in the MS150. On April 28, after spending many hours of their personal time training for the journey, they followed through on the commitment they made and turned the long stretch of highway from Houston to Austin into a veloway for a cause. They made this journey in just two days and ultimately raised more than $9,000 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Meanwhile, on that same weekend, a crew stepped up for the annual Austin Cup. This is an event SailPoint has participated in for years, but this was the most victorious one yet. We took home four trophies: 3rd Place Team, The Culture Cup for Best Costume, The Weber’s Cup for Highest Contribution by a Company and one of our teammates won 1st place in the women’s category! While the awards are fun, the real victory was the fact that we contributed more than $5046 to the Center for Child Protection through this event, a cause that aids children who are dealing with abusive home lives.

It isn’t just the SailPoint Crew that gives back selflessly. It’s also our customers who exemplify our core values too. Our third annual Women in Identity dinner at Navigate ’18 was an amazing event. We knew our crew and our customers in attendance would step up for Girlstart when it came to donating and participating in the auction and a friendly game of heads or tails. If you don’t know what heads or tails is, it’s very simple. Everyone pays money to play, and when they stand up, they put their hands on their, wait for it, heads or tails. Someone flips a coin and whatever it lands on determines who continues standing. The adrenaline rush alone is worth whatever you pay to join in on the game. When the final round came and the winner was announced, that winner (a customer) turned around and donated the iPad she won in the game back to Girlstart! Not only that, we raised enough to send more than a dozen girls to camp.

We also recently completed annual participation in the Entrepreneurs Foundation Spring Service Week. The service projects during this year’s week of service were centered all around food, something that many Austinites struggle with. With Meals on Wheels and Mobile Loaves and Fishes, our crew helped deliver meals and provide sustenance that would otherwise be missing for our elderly citizens and homeless population. KXAN followed us on this journey, and you can watch the video here.

And finally, we saw the revival of a classic SailPoint teambuilding event: The Sailpoint Putt-a-Thon. Teams are tasked with building putting holes to make up an 18-hole putt-putt course right at our HQ. Our crew got very creative, designing holes themed around video games, movies, holidays and superheroes. The green fees collected at this event go to Explore Austin, a cause near and dear to SailPoint. By the end of this event, our crew had pulled in $1000 for Explore Austin!

Whether riding 150 miles, driving miles to deliver food to those in need or staying right here in Austin to bowl and putt, it was an incredible month of giving at SailPoint.
