Three Questions with Optiv’s Julie Talbot-Hubbard

Always accept the challenge! Julie Talbot-Hubbard is no stranger to security and accepting challenges is in her nature. She began her career as an auditor but quickly took the challenge to take on more progressive leadership positions in information risk and security at that same organization. She’s now held leadership positions in large financial, insurance, and healthcare organizations. Despite the mobility, she doesn’t stay complacent. She’s always looking for challenging opportunities out of her comfort zone to provide growth. We caught up with Julie to dig a little deeper and learn more about her background as a SailPoint partner with Optiv. Her main goal? To help reduce security risks exposure while also enabling organizations digital growth. Challenge accepted. Here are three questions with Julie Talbot-Hubbard.

Where will we find you at 10 a.m. on a Saturday, and how does that routine/ritual help you be a better leader during the workweek?

Working out is my stop on Saturday mornings. I head to my SPENGA workout, where I unwind with spinning, strength, and yoga. I’m energized and refreshed afterwards, ready to tackle the weekend spending quality time with my son, husband and dog Lexi. This quality time genuinely helps me relax and gain a different perspective when engaging at work again in the upcoming weeks.

What woman inspires you, and how do they influence your leadership style?

Early on in my career, I sought successful female leaders with children to be mentors as I wanted to learn from them, specifically, how they had managed to be a mother while also working a full-time job that required much dedication.

My mentors helped me gain perspective and confidence to have my son. I’m inspired by women who take time to assist-mentor other women in their careers while also having the courage and confidence to drive challenging projects and change across enterprise organizations. These women have provided me continued hope and support to keep moving forward, overcoming obstacles, and bias.  Given my experience with female women mentors I seek to give back in the same manor; sponsoring and mentoring women to ensure their career aspirations can become a reality to them.

How do you keep yourself grounded in times of great stress or change?

When I’m leading through change, I focus on the positive impact-influence- and results that myself and my team can provide. I work to create a vision and strategy with my team; provide focus, ongoing monitoring and recognition for achieving the outcomes desired.   This keeps the team engaged and motivated.
