Three Questions With Amber Miles, Professional Services Manager at SailPoint

As the child of a nurse, Amber Miles always knew she wanted her work to have meaning. Her first job in high school was at a hospital, but a traditional healthcare career didn’t seem like it was the right fit. Fast-forward to her first (miserable) post-college job, when she decided to marry healthcare and technology and soon after found herself working at a healthcare software start up, where the focus was reducing patient medication errors using barcode technology.

After years of consulting and a long stretch at a children’s hospital, a connection to our Sr. Director of Corporate Communications, Jessica Sutera, led her here. For the past four years, she has been a critical part of our team – helping hospitals and other healthcare organizations use identity security to keep information safe to her role now as a Professional Services Manager.

We knew she would be the perfect person to hear from in our Women in Identity series, so today she’s sharing more about herself and the advice she has for new professionals.

If you could learn any skill by snapping your fingers, what would it be and why?

I’d love to be able to speak and understand any language. Someday, I will be able to travel again and it’s so much easier to immerse yourself in a new location when you speak the language like a local.

What goals have you set for yourself for 2021?

Given that we will still be in the midst of a pandemic when we kick off the new year, I’m going to go easy on myself, goal-wise. I’m going to continue to make sheltering in place as pleasant and as fun as possible for myself and my family, which includes keeping up my newfound sourdough habit and baking something sweet once a week. I’m going to move my body every day. I’m going to take a break to hug my partner once a day. And I’m really going to try to get my home office in good enough shape to be featured on “Workspace Wednesday.”

What advice would you give to new women professionals going into the new year?

Not only do you need to wear sunscreen, you need to reapply it. Reapplication is key! Drink lots of water. And please, women, raise each other up! We all shine brighter when we show up for each other. It took me a little longer than I’d like to admit to realize this.
