The term “visibility” can seem like a vague term, but in security certainty is everything. Having full visibility on who can view, access and control every single piece of data your company owns creates the building blocks to keeping corporate data in your own hands and out of the hands of hackers and competitors. Further, knowing what exposure points your organization might have is also part of the term ‘visibility.’ The cherry on this visibility sundae, if you will, is that unstructured data is where many of these pain points lie in the modern enterprise. While 6 in 10 of respondents to SailPoint’s Market Pulse Survey are concerned about managing and safeguarding the sensitive organizational data that lives in unstructured data files, a full 71% believe they are not equipped to fully protect it.
How Identity Helps
Protecting unstructured data is still a new issue for today’s enterprise. SailPoint has seen many of our own customers and those coming from legacy systems evolving and growing on a global scale and, with that, adopting cloud technologies. The power of identity brings this data back into the fold while also allowing businesses to implement and enforce polices around apps and data whether the worker is at the company headquarters or working a thousand miles away.
